The U word

« Waterloo Sunset A Wednesday in London »

There is one word that strikes pain in my heart more than the c word (not commitment, the other one).

Users

I hate this word with a passion. There is no place for it in this century, yet it is continuously in place in documents across the business world. Take Microsoft’s debacle over updating windows update autimatically - even if you set updates off - on their blog. The word User (or users) is their six times.

The Apple Hot news page also has user sprinkled about, but not taling about the person per se, they talk about user experince - which is just as bad.

The phrase user experience belongs in the archaic age of Jacob Nielsen and HTML 3, back in the days when people didn’t use computers, devices, systems whatever. Here’s an idea, how about just calling it the “experience” we all know that the experience isn’t between the device and the battery so can we just lose the word user, PLEASE

It just shows that it’s not just the linguistic barriers between nations, its the stylistic and linguistic problems within a language itself.
