A sad day for Zooomr

« The Müller Formula Why I roll without JavaScript »

Raoul Pop's photographRaoul Pop has just posted that he’s closed the gate on Zooomr. I really respect Raoul, there have been times where I’ve taken photos specifically to show him as I know they are the kind of things he’d like*. I can’t say I blame him - I have also wondered what the push is on the mobile site when I can’t have more than 12 sets visible, when I can’t fave from the pages I used to, and when camera information gets lost on the upload.

In fact I’ve been dual uploading - to Zooomr and Flickr, with a few discrepancies sadly. I still love the Zooomr people, but I’m beginning to be in the same boat.

In fact I’ve got my own deadline for Zooomr before I to will have to say good bye. If by the turn of the clock over to 2008 (GMT) rolls past before all of these are in place, I’m going to have to go to**

  1. EXIF data - including the ability to retrospectively place data on broken photos
  2. Faving from thumbnails - just as in Mk2
  3. More than12 sets visible
  4. Recent Activity
  5. Photo Security - I don’t want people to be able to download my work, and a simple addiiton to the photo URL and they can.

This is a short list, and definitely within the realms of 10 weeks (yep thats all thats left of the year of focused work. Lets hope it can be done.

*UPDATE: Ironically Iwanted to show you some of the photos I’d taken for Raoul - but it looks at the moment like either they have a lot of traffic, or have chosen the second option…

“Perhaps Kris and Tom both lost interest in shipping Zooomr the way they promised it. That’s okay. But tell us, please! Disclose why Zooomr isn’t what you promised it to be. Then either go on with the status quo or close down the shop and go do something that interests you more. Otherwise, ship what you promised.” - Raoul

**UPDATE 2:Looks like my blogged photos are off the air too, apologies to all I’ll try and get the flickr versions up ASAP.Maybe it’ll be an all Flickr shop sooner than expected.

UPDATE 3: Apparently it was just a web proxy server that wasn’t playing nicely, alls back to normal and I believe a few EXIF fixes have been rushed into place.
