The lion on the South East corner on Westminster Bridge (closest to the Eye) sheds a tear as he looks west unto St Thomas’s Hospital and beyond.
The memorial was erected in 1926; dedicated to the five Foot Guards regiments of the Great War. The Guardsmen are Sergeant R. Bradshaw, M.M., Grenadier Guards, Lance Corporal J. S. Richardson Coldstream Guards, Guardsman J. McDonald Scots Guards, Simon McCarthy, Irish Guards and Guardsman A. Comley, Welsh Guards. The figures were cast from guns taken from Germans during the Great War.
