So-fa

Well what a week. I’ve just about recovered.
London has been the centre of the universe this week - even more so than normal.

Why I roll without JavaScript

Nick replied to a comment I made over at the 37 Signals site complaining that Lightbox ruins websites.

The sky turned black, the lights went out, and a giant gleaming polaroid slammed me in the face. That’s right, I got lightboxed … Lightboxing kills context, and worse, it kills personality … So next time, save us the eye strain and think twice before you start playing with the lightswitch.

I obviously disagree as I

The Müller Formula

A post on colourlovers.com a few days ago really struck a chord with me. It talks about the Müller formula - which can predict a preference to a pallette of colours. It works that the most beatiful pallettes are made from colours of the same hue, but of different brightnesses.

Eureeka! This makes shows why I loke the PwC pallettes to much* . Which of the palletes below is your favourite?

The U word

There is one word that strikes pain in my heart more than the c word (not commitment, the other one).

Users

I hate this word with a passion. There is no place for it in this century, yet it is continuously in place in documents across the business world. Take Microsoft’s debacle over updating windows update autimatically - even if you set updates off - on their blog. The word User (or users) is their

What’s the difference between workflow and lifecycle?

So in order to flesh it out, here you go….

  • Workflow is the means to an end, it involves the movement of an object among different places and people in order for it to progress along it’s life cycle.
  • Lifecycle is the process of a document’s life usually involving the

Versioning your software

How do you give a release number for your software?

Well you could do a Google and just leave it at Beta for years, which would be nice, but in all seriousness there is a simple method….

Major.Minor.EmergencyRelease

For instance 1.5.1 means first major release, 5th minor release and with an emergency (critical) update.

Little do they know it but my team are going to follow this from now on.

For more info see this post (which also
